Carnival Cruise Line BBB Review October 3, 2017

Passenger Complaint: Carnival Cruise Line BBB Review October 3, 2017 –  “My wife and I have been very loyal Carnival Cruise customers for many, many years. We are both Gold VIP members and have taken a Carnival Cruise per year for the past 5 or 6 years. We were very excited to book a cruise leaving out of San Juan early next year as it was stopping at Barbados, where we went for our honeymoon. Following the devastating hurricane and the many stories of looting, murders (on St. Martin), and years long recovery expected for San Juan, we decided to change our plans to another “bucket list” trip and asked Carnival to change our reservation to an Alaska cruise leaving out of Seattle. I was shocked to learn I was going to be charged a (nominal) change fee that would not be credited and would not be waived. I even requested the fee simply be added as shipboard credit, that we would easily use. Their supervisors refused to waive the fee! We were prepared to book a balcony cabin on the new cruise, which would have cost us nearly $1,000 more, but because of their refusal to waive the change fee, we decided, purely out of principal, to book an ocean view cabin to save the extra $600+. Unfortunately, this will be our last Carnival Cruise! There are many, many other options for cruises (we have been on Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian) but have stayed loyal to Carnival for many years…no more! They turned a trip were looking forward to, into a trip I can’t wait to get through!!”

Carnival Cruise Line Response:“Good day, Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to respond to Mr. *** complaint. We know our success depends on our guests and we treat all reports of guest dissatisfaction very seriously. It is always disheartening to learn that our guests are disappointed with their experience in planning their cruise vacation as it is Carnival’s goal to provide our guests with the finest cruise vacation available starting from the booking process.. After careful review, our records show that the guests are currently booked under our exciting Early Saver promotion in which our guests are rewarded for booking early with the absolute lowest rate. In addition, the fares are backed up by a unique price protection feature. The program offers great savings but has specific restrictions. If any guest decides to cancel any time prior to the scheduled final payment date, then the amount paid for the deposit will be issued as a future cruise credit minus a $50 per person service fee. The credit card holder will have 24 months from the date of cancellation to redeem the credit on any future sailing. Also, there is a $50 per person service fee assessed if guests decide to change the ship or sail date anytime prior to the final payment date. Additionally, the guests are subject to the current rates and availability being offered on the sailing. Though we realize this maybe a huge disappointment for the guest, we hope that he will understand our position in this matter as we do not make exceptions to the terms and conditions of the Early Saver program in order to protect its integrity. Kind Regards, *** ** Carnival Cruise Line 3655 NW 87th Avenue Miami, FL”
