Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines BBB Review April 28 2017

Passenger Complaint: Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines BBB Review April 28, 2017 – “For anyone who is interested in booking with royal Caribbean, I strongly suggest you read my story first. Especially if traveling with children. On April 2nd, my family and I set sail on the anthem of the seas. My daughter (pictures here) is 15 months old. While on board, my daughter contracted the noro virus and had severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Hours later, her body broke out in this rash. We sought medical attention and were told from Dr. ****, that she would “be fine”. My daughter had been on antibiotics a week prior, and we were assured that this was a reaction to the medication. We learned from our own doctor, once off the ship, that this rash was a direct result of the noro virus. I begged the doctor for a topical hydrocortisone to ease the discomfort, and we were directed to the cruise ship store where we were able to purchase some for an outrageous amount. My daughter had such severe diarrhea, that her entire diaper area was BLEEDING so I begged the doctor for a prescription strength cream (which she told me she had), but wouldn’t give me because, “you can’t use that on children”. If she had any pediatric experience at all, she would know that you can, and it almost instantly relieves a severe diaper rash. I begged for prednisone, or decadron, or a pediatric epi pen and I was denied all of those things. I asked for zofran so my daughter could stop vomiting and was told by the doctor that they don’t medicate children. Well guess what?! Hours after being off the ship, my daughter was medicated with the exact things I asked for onboard. The medical staff were inexperienced and couldn’t wait to get rid of us. They promised us a follow up phone call to check on my baby, and never did. Anytime I reached out to medical, they only cared about how much money they could charge me for it being “off hours”. Mind you, they only worked for two different periods of a couple hours each day, so almost always is “off hours”. My daughter was in agony for two days. Her eyes swelled shut, she scratched herself crazy. I gave her Benadryl and Tylenol and Motrin, and it wasn’t helping her. The staff would take one look at my daughter and look the other way. No one offered to help, no one even offered to bring us food or drinks since we were stuck in our room caring for my kids. My poor son, who is 4, also got the noro virus and spent 12 hours vomiting without any relief from medical. My husband and I found ourselves changing the sheets, bringing food back from the buffet, just so we could have something to eat. We took shifts sleeping so one of us could stay awake to make sure our daughter was breathing. We were so in fear that she would stop breathing and no one would help us. We were thinking of every scenario of what we were going to do if we looked at her and she wasn’t breathing. I cried more in those two days, than I did in my entire life. I’ve never felt such a fear in my heart. My poor baby was SUFFERING and no one cared to help us. I had to make 3 phone calls to demand to get off the ship as soon as we docked and they told me we could walk off at 6am with NO assistance with our bags and two very sick kids. I had to beg someone to help us with our bags. The night before, at 11pm, the manager of housekeeping came and took our bags and we walked off the ship at 6:30am only to find out our bags were lost. The port manager was the only person who cared enough to help us. All the staff on the ship couldn’t have cared any less. So once we got the medical attention we needed, I missed work unpaid, and we got our lives together, I reached out to royal Caribbean to discuss this. You know that I was offered?! $511, which is half of my kids cruise fare back. Which also happens to be a sale price, not even a full price. I paid in total, with the cruise fare, drink package (that we didn’t get to enjoy), and excursions over 5 thousand Dollars. They could only offer me $511 or a $975 voucher towards a future cruise, where they would make even more money from me?! This is a slap in the face from a company that made $1.28B last year. Unacceptable to say the least. I will be sure to never, ever book or recommend anyone to royal Caribbean ever again since this is how they treat their customers. I am disgusted to say the least!”
